Flemish novelist, poet, essayist, screenwriter and playwright. His books have been translated into more than fifteen languages and his plays were staged in twenty countries. Lanoye is the laureate of the Gouden Uil Literatuurprijs and Gouden Uil Publieksprijs literary awards (for his novels Boze tongen and Zwarte tranen). In 2007 his literary achievements were rewarded with the Gouden Ganzenveer Prize and an honorary doctorate from the University of Antwerp. Lanoye’s novel Sprakeloos, account of the gradual demise of the author’s mother (published in 2009), was shortlisted for the Gouden Uil, Libris Literatuur Prijs and AKO Literatuurprijs awards and received the Gouden Uil Publieksprijs and Henriette Roland Holst-prijs awards. In 2017 it was adapted for the screen. In 2014 Lanoye received the Constantijn Huygensprijs award for his lifelong achievement.
