Adrian Schiop

Adrian Schiop is a prominent Romanian author and sociologist who holds degrees in psychology, linguistics, and a doctorate in sociology, with a dissertation focused on manele music. His diverse professional history includes roles as a teacher, journalist, and a painter in New Zealand. Schiop has published four novels with Polirom, including Zero Kelvinand May We All Be Equally Miserable. His breakthrough work, Soldiers. A Story from Ferentari (2013), swept the 2014 Romanian literary awards and gained international acclaim. Notably, the novel has been translated into Czech, as well as English, German, and Polish. It was also adapted into a film by Ivana Mladenović, starring Schiop himself. Self-described as a specialist in tragic gay love stories, he is also known for his provocative political and climate activist views.
