Françoise Vergès

Françoise Vergès (*1952) is a French political theorist and feminist activist known for her work on decolonial theory, memory of slavery and postcolonial studies. She is a Senior researcher for the Study of Racism and Racialisation at the University of London and the former president of the Committee for the History and Memory of Slavery. She is the author of numerous influential essays that bridge academic research and activism, challenging Eurocentric narratives and calling for a feminism grounded in anti-racist and decolonial struggles. Her book A Decolonial Feminism was published in Czech in 2025 by Karolinum (Slon – Gender sondy series), translated by Markéta Jakešová.
