Frode Grytten

Frode Grytten (*1960) is a writer and journalist based in western Norway. He writes in Nynorsk, a minority written standard form of Norwegian. He made his debut in 1983 with the poetry collection Start and his work covers a wide range of literary forms and genres from short stories, through novels and poetry collections to children's literature. He has won many awards for his works in Norway, including the prestigious Brageprisen, which he has received twice. The last time it was in 2023 for the novel The Last Day by Nils Vik. The book follows the widower Nils Vik's last voyage through the fjord, during which Nils turns in his memories to those he met on his ferryman journeys, as well as to those he lost. Grytten carefully formulates thoughts about life and death, and at the same time he is able to capture the poetics of place, the present moment and eternal love.
