Andrej Kurkov

A prominent Ukrainian author and public intellectual. Before achieving literary fame, Kurkov worked as a journalist, prison warden, cameraman, and screenwriter. His works, characterized by black humour, have been translated into over forty languages and published in 65 countries. He won the prestigious French Prix Médicis in 2022 for Grey Bees and was nominated for the International Booker Prize in 2023. Since the beginning of the war, he remains in Ukraine and frequently comments on the situation there for the European and American media. His book Grey Bees is available in Czech, published by Paseka (Šedé včely, translated by Libor Dvořák).
