Georgi Gospodinov

He is a worldwide distinguished writer, poet, and playwright who gained international acclaim with his debut novel, Natural Novel (1999), described by The New Yorker as an “anarchic, experimental debut“. His subsequent work, The Physics of Sorrow (2012), won the Jan Michalski Prize for Literature in 2016 and the Angelus Central European Literature Award in 2019. In 2023, Gospodinov’s novel Time Shelter received the International Booker Prize, shared with translator Angela Rodel. His works, translated into over 25 languages, often explore themes of memory, identity, and the human condition. Two of his books are available in Czech: Fyzika smutku (The Physics of Sorrow) published by NLN and Časokryt (Time Shelter) published by Argo.
