Sasha Filipenko is a prominent Belarusian writer, journalist, and television host. He studied literature at St. Petersburg State University. Filipenko’s literary career includes notable works such as Red Crosses, The Ex-Son and Cremulator, with his novels translated into over 15 languages. His plays have been staged in cities like Berlin, Kyiv, Moscow, St. Petersburg, and Vilnius. A vocal critic of President Alexander Lukashenko’s regime, Filipenko has faced potential prosecution in Belarus for his outspoken opposition and support for political prisoners. In 2021, PEN International recognized him as a victim of censorship. Currently residing in Switzerland with his family, Filipenko continues to write and advocate for human rights.
