Vigdis Hjorth

One of Norway’s most compelling authors. In her books she dives into the painful depths of human relationships and is not afraid to touch on taboo subjects. She has won the Norwegian Critics Prize three times and was nominated for the Nordic Council Literature Prize in 2017. Her works have been published in more than 30 countries. The novel Er mor død (Is Mother Dead, 2020), her first work to be published in Czech by Argo in a translation by Barbora Grečnerová, tells the story of the closest yet most complex interpersonal relationship between mother and daughter. It was shortlisted for the International Booker Prize. The author’s latest book, Kull i brystet (Lump in the Breast, 2025), which she wrote with her daughter Line Norman Hjorth, is a confession about the experience of breast cancer treatment.
