Magda Vašáryová

Magda Vašáryová was born in 1948 in Banská Štiavnica. She graduated from the Faculty of Arts of Comenius University in Bratislava. During her career, she became known not only as a talented actress, but also as a diplomat and politician. Between 1983 and 1990 she worked at the Slovak National Theatre. After the revolution, she became the ambassador of the Czechoslovak Republic to Austria (1990–1993) and of Slovakia to Poland (2000–2005). Between 2005 and 2006 she was State Secretary of the Slovak Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and from 2006 to 2016 she was a member of the Slovak National Council. In 1993 she founded the Slovak Foreign Policy Association (SFPA). From 2013 to 2023, she chaired the oldest Slovak women’s association Živena and since 2007 has been the Chair of the Board of Trustees of the think tank VIA CULTURA, which she founded.
