Guest of the book fair
Mario Desiati spent a good part of his life in Apulia – he was born in the picturesque Locorotondo, grew up in the nearby town of Martina Franca and studied in Bari – but currently spends most of the year in Rome and part of it in Berlin. He studied law and worked for a while in a law firm, then his interest turned to literature. For several years, he worked as an editor for the Fandango editore publishing house, but he also worked on his own writing. He published collections of poems, essays and novels. He has won various literary awards, but his peak in this respect came in 2022, when he won Italy’s most prestigious literary prize, the Strega Prize, for his novel Spatriati. With this novel, he introduces himself to Czech readers for the first time.
