Guest of the book fair
Marie Hermanson made her debut in 1986 with the short story collection There is a Hole in Reality (2003). In 1995, she was nominated for the August Prize for her novel Värddjuret (The Host), which was later dramatised and performed at Teater Pero in Stockholm. Her novel Musselstranden (Shell Beach, 1998) broke through with critics and the public and is now considered a Swedish modern classic. Two of her later books mirror each other: in The Housekeeper (2008), a woman sneaks into a house she is curious about; in The Man Under the Stairs (2008), a tenant evicts a family who take up residence in “his” house. The Great Exhibition (2021) and The Plague Island (2023), which was nominated for the best Swedish crime novel of the year, have recently been published in Czech.
