Guest of the book fair
Historian Denis Dumoulin was born in Fribourg, in the French-speaking part of Switzerland, where he studied modern and contemporary history at the local university. After finishing his teaching career at the Lycée-College des Creusets in Sion, he spent several years researching sources and literature in Switzerland and the Czech Republic. He managed to collect the most remarkable examples of cultural history common to both countries, which he captured in his book A l'enseigne du lion de Bohême (2020, Czech edition: Argo, 2023). In the book you will learn, among other things, how Ottokar II of Bohemia encouraged the determination of the Swiss “pre-cantons” to win their independence, or how Switzerland helped Czechoslovak dissident writers during communism. The author currently lives in Sion, continues to research historical sources and publishes the results of his research.
