Rosa Montero was born in Madrid and studied journalism and psychology. She worked with independent theatre groups and also started publishing in different media such as Fotogramas, Pueblo and Posible. Since 1976, she worked for El País, between 1980 and 1981 she was the editor of the Sunday supplement. Two of her novels, namely La buena suerte (Good Luck) and The Madwoman of the House, were published in Czech by Dauphin (translations by Marie Jungmannová and Tomáš Popek). Her works, translated into more than twenty languages, won numerous awards. In addition to novels, she has also published a collection of short stories, two biographical essays, children’s stories and collections of interviews and articles. She holds the title of Doctor honoris causa from the University of Puerto Rico and is an honorary professor of the Academic Department of Humanities at the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú.
