Stein Torleif Bjellawas born in the mountain village of Ål in eastern Norway, the region where his autobiographical prose Fiskehusettakes place. The successful songwriter and musician debuted as a writer in 2017 with the award-winning poetry collection Jordsjukantologien Nr. 1. The novel Fiskehuset is his first prose work. The book won the 2021 Nynorsk Literature Prize. In 2023, it was published in Czech by the Prostor publishing house translated by Jarka Vrbová. The book is about an old merchant, Ivar, who is about to give a mountain lake, a boat and a fishing cabin to his slightly clumsy nephew Jon. But first he must initiate him into the secrets and meaning of fishing and life.
