Dmitrij Kapitelman

Kapitelman was born in Kyiv. At the age of eight, he and his parents moved to Germany under the approved quotas for Jewish migrants from Russia. Kapitelmann studied political science and sociology at the University of Leipzig and journalism in Munich. Today, he writes for ZEITmagazin. In 2016, his first, highly acclaimed book, Das Lächeln meines unsichtbaren Vaters (The Smile of My Invisible Father), was published, for which he received the Klaus-Michael Kühne Prize. This was followed in 2021 by Eine Formalie in Kiew (A Formality in Kiev, 2024 Větrné mlýny), which was honored by the Revensburger Verlag Foundation as the best family novel. His latest novel, Russische Spezialitäten (Russian Specialties) from 2025, was nominated for the German Book Prize.
