This poet belongs to the Belarusian underground. He was educated as an architect and is an author of 17 poetry books. He leads the literary-publishing project Novye Mechi and publishes the poetry edition Minsk School. He is a member of PEN Belarus and the Union of Belarusian Writers. He has won several awards, such as the prestigious Russian Prize (Русская премия, 2008), the Norwegian Authors Union Freedom of Expression Prize (2020) and most recently the Disturbing the Peace Award of the Václav Havel Library Foundation (2021). After the rigged presidential election, he became actively involved in peaceful street protests, for which he was abducted with a sack on his head and ended up in prison. Dmitry Strotsev’s poems were published in about 15 world languages, including Czech.
