Italian novelist, essayist and journalist, Veronesi studied architecture at the University of Florence. He debuted aged 25 with a poetry collection, later focusing on prose. He is the author of five novels, three essays, one drama and several prefaces to works of prose, film and television scripts.
For his novel La forza del passato (The Force of the Past) Veronesi received several prestigious literary awards, including the Campiello and Viareggio prizes. The book has been translated into fifteen languages and gave rise to an eponymous film adaptation by Piergiorgio Gay. Veronesi is a double laureate of the Strega prize for literature – for his novel Caos Calmo in 2006 (also made into a film), which has simultaneously received the Prix Fermina and Prix Méditerranée in France, and for the novel Il Colibri in 2020 (published in Czech by Odeon, translated by Alice Flemrová).
