Gunstein Bakke is the Norwegian author of four novels, two poetry collections, and one book combining poetry and photographs. He also works as a translator and teacher of creative writing. He lives partly in Oslo and on the Swedish island of Gotland. Bakke received the European Union Prize for Literature for his third novel, Maud and Aud: A Novel on Traffic (2011). His last novel Expectant (2016) is dwelling on the topic of pregnancy and the range of cultural expectations, myths and taboos associated with the pregnant body. It is a clinical yet tender testimony of birth and death, transgression and abnormity, as reflected in the stories of three individuals. The form combines fragments of classical narration with reflections, images and shreds of memories.
