Guest of the book fair
Patrik Svensson grew up in a small Swedish town near the coast, which is nicknamed the “eel’s”. From an early age, he was interested in nature and animals and went fishing with his father. After studying languages and literature, he began making a living as a journalist. At first he wrote about cultural, social and political events, but more and more topics from science and research were coming up. He is fascinated by science mainly because, despite its exactness, it does not know the answers to everything, which creates a space for imagination. And so Svensson’s first book, The Secret Life of Eels, was created, which immediately captivated the readership, dominated the sales charts and won the most prestigious Swedish literary award – the August Prize in the non-fiction category in 2019. Patrik Svensson is an arts and culture journalist at Sydsvenskan newspaper. Patrik lives with his family in Malmö, Sweden. The Gospel of Eels is his debut.
