He is a French writer. He became well-known in 2010 with the publication of HHhH (Grasset; translated into Czech and published by Argo), which obtained the Goncourt First Novel Prize. His unusual perspective of the background of Reinhard Heydrich’s assassination attracted a large number of readers and has also been adapted into a film. In 2015, he published a brilliant semiological-conspiratorial novel La septième fonction du langage(Grasset; in Czech Sedmá funkce jazyka, Argo, 2017), for which he was awarded several literary prizes. He also received the Prix de l’Académie française for his latest novel Civilizations (Grasset, 2019; in Czech Civilizace, Argo, 2021).
