Andrej Chadanovič

Andrey Chadanovich (Андрэй Хадановіч) is a poet, translator, essayist, literary scholar and pedagogue. He graduated from the Faculty of Philology of the Belarusian State University, then completed his doctoral studies there. He teaches French literature at the same university, runs a creative writing course at the Young Writer’s School and an art translation course at the Translation Workshop. From 2008 to 2017, he chaired the Belarusian Center of the International PEN Club. He has published a dozen of his own books of poetry, including a book of poems for children and perhaps even more books of poetry translated from Polish, French, English and other languages. His own poems were published in translations into 20 languages, including Czech, and in anthologies in Ukrainian, Polish and Swedish. Andrey Chadanovich has been a guest of a large number of literary festivals around the world and is one of the organizers of the Grand Duchy of Poetry and Poems on Asphalt festivals held both in Belarus and abroad. Winner of many awards, such as the Carlos Sherman Award for Best Translated Book (Charles Baudelaire Committee, 2017), the Natallya Arsennev Award for Best Poetry Collection (2020), the 2015 Book of the Year or the Polish PEN-Club Award (2015) and the Polish Daily Rzeczpospolita Award (2020).
