Max Ščur

BELARUS *1977
Max Shchur is a Belarusian-Czech poet, novelist and translator, living in Prague since 1998. From 1994 to 1998 he studied Spanish and English at the Minsk University of Linguistics, from 1999 to 2006 Spanish and Ibero-American literature at the Faculty of Arts of Charles University. Author of poetry collections (in Belarusian), short story books, as well as three novels: Where We Are Not (2004, Janka Juchnavec Award), Close Gestalt(2016, Jerzy Giedroyce Award for the best prose book of the year) and Film Novel (2019). He published collections of poems Modus Bibendi (2012) and Arrhythmia (2019), the short story Kulturtréger (2013) and a book interview with Frantisek Dryje, The Great Antimasturbator (2017), in Czech language. He arranged a selection from the work of Maxim Bahdanovich, Broken Necklace (National Library 2017), co-translated a book by the Belarusian anarchist Mikola Dziadok, A Parallel World in Color (2018) and organized and translated the anthology Radical Buddhism (2019), a novel by Viktar Valtar Born under Saturn (2020). He publishes in the magazines Analogon, Plav, Bělarus, etc. He translated the works of Egon Bondy, Lewis Carroll, Emily Dickinson, TS Eliot, Walt Whitman (2019 Transparent Aeolus Award for translation) and others into Belarusian. He is the editor of the Belarusian-Ukrainian-Russian online magazine Litrazh.org.
