Genius of the multiple-voices literature, he is a novelist, television writer, opera writer and screenwriter.
Mitchell was born in Southport in England. After his graduation at the University of Kent, in English and American Literature – followed by an M.A. in Comparative Literature – he moved to Hiroshima, Japan, where he taught English to technical students for eight years, before returning to England. His first novel, Ghostwritten, won the John Llewellyn Rhys Prize (for best work of British literature written by an author under 35). His two subsequent novels, number9dream (2001) and Cloud Atlas (2004), were both shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize. In 2012, his novel Cloud Atlaswas made into a successful movie. In August 2019, it was announced that Mitchell would be the co-screenwriter on the fourth film in The Matrix series. Mitchell was the second author to contribute to the Future Library project (after Margaret Atwood) with his book From Me Flows What You Call Time. Mitchell was listed among Time magazine’s 100 Most Influential People in The World Czechs can read many of his books amongst which: The Bone Clocks (Hodiny z kostí), Dům za zdí (Slade House), Atlas mraků (Cloud Atlas). David Mitchell lives in Clonakilty, Ireland.
