The strongest literary voice of African women, she a novelist, essayist and activist.
Born in Nigeria, she studied there medicine and pharmacy until moving to USA for studying communications and political science then graduated in creative writing.
Her debut novel, Purple Hibiscus, received wide critical acclaim and was awarded the Commonwealth Writers’ Prize for Best First Book. Her third novel Americanah (2013) was selected by The New York Times as one of “The 10 Best Books of 2013” and won the International Dublin Literary Award.
She also gave Ted’s lectures which shaped her views on racial and gender issue: “The Danger of a Single Story” and “We should all be feminists” – the second one has been featured by Beyonce on her song Flawless.
Czechs can read most of her books, included Purple Hibiscus (Purpurový ibišek), Americanah (Amerikána) or We Should All Be Feminists(Feminismus je pro každého) in Petr Štádler’s translation. Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie lives between Lagos and Washington.
